AMY Producer to Attend Film’s Much Anticipated Irish Premiere
The award-winning producer of AMY, James Gay-Rees, will be jetting into Dublin to attend the films Irish premiere in the Light House Cinema tomorrow night where he will take part in a post screening interview with Today FM’s Ed Smith. The much anticipated premiere of Asif Kapadia’s revelatory new documentary on the life and career of the late Amy Winehouse is in association with Universal Music Ireland and Today FM and is set to be attended by some of the leading lights of the Irish music and film industries.
James Gay-Rees has produced a wide variety of feature films but is perhaps best known for producing high-profile documentary films including the double BAFTA winning SENNA (also directed by Asif Kapadia) and the Academy Award® nominated EXIT THROUGH THE GIFT SHOP directed by Banksy.
Since its world premiere at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival last month, AMY has received a flurry of five star reviews, with critics singing its praise. The Guardian’s five star review describes the film as “stunningly moving and powerful: intimate, passionate, often shocking, and almost mesmerically absorbing” and dubbing it a “masterpiece”, The Independent has called it “”brilliant”, while Deadline named the film as the early favourite for the Best Documentary Oscar.
Painstakingly assembled from extensive archive material, including the star’s own home movies, photographs, handwritten song lyrics, early demos of some of her most famous songs, as well as personal recollections from friends, family members, and creative collaborators, AMY is an emotionally searching and honest depiction of an extraordinary talent, whose battles with addiction would end with her promising career cut painfully short at the age of just 27.
Wildcard is partnering with Altitude Film Distribution for the release of the film in Ireland. AMY is in Irish cinemas on the 3rd of July.
