Barbaric Genius to Screen in Notting Hill, London on October 7th

Paul Duane’s critically acclaimed documentary Barbaric Genius will screen on Monday 7th October in the Gate Cinema in Notting Hill London ahead of its international multi-platform and DVD release.  John Healy will attend the screening and will take part in a Q&A with Suzanne Moore from The Guardian.

The Grierson-nominated Irish documentary tells the story of London-Irish ex-wino John Healy and his journey from alcoholism and homelessness to chess master and the world of literary fame and fortune, and untangles the story of his sudden disappearance and the mysteries that grew up around it.

John’s award winning book, The Grass Arena, is now a Penguin Classic and is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year.

Barbaric Genius was produced by Duane and Mary Carson for Screenworks with funding from Bord Scannán na hÉireann/ the Irish Film Board (BSÉ/IFB) and RTÉ.

Wildcard Distribution will be releasing Barbaric Genius worldwide across multiple platforms and DVD in October.
