Irish audiences have a chance to see Lady Macbeth the night before it goes on general release when a special Gala Preview Screening from London’s Victoria & Albert Museum will be live-broadcast to cinemas across Ireland and the UK this Thursday 27th April.

Directed by acclaimed theatre director William Oldroyd and starring Florence Pugh and Cosmo Jarvis, the film is based on Nikolai Leskov’s nineteenth century novella Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk.

Lady Macbeth is a tragic portrait of a beautiful, determined and merciless young woman in a world dominated by men. Set in rural England, 1865, Katherine (Florence Pugh) is stifled by her loveless marriage to a bitter man twice her age, and his cold, unforgiving family. When she embarks on a passionate affair with a young worker on her husband’s estate, a force is unleashed inside her so powerful that she will stop at nothing to get what she wants.

The film was written by Alice Birch, with costumes designed by Holly Waddington.

The screening will be followed by a live Q&A with director William Oldroyd, actress Florence Pugh and costume designer Holly Waddington and special guests.

The special Gala Preview Screening and Live Q&A will be shown in Cineworld and IMC Dun Laoghaire in Dublin, Omniplex Mahon Point in Cork and Odeon Belfast.
