THE GUARANTEE live event went off with a bang at Movies@Dundrum last night, where a packed cinema enjoyed the tense political drama of Ian Power’s film with cast members David Murray, Morgan C. Jones, and Orla Fitzpatrick in attendance.

Viewers in Dundrum and participating cinemas nationwide were then treated to a lively debate from a panel which was hosted by Today FM’s Matt Cooper and featured writer Colin Murphy, director Ian Power, politician and broadcaster Ivan Yates and Irish Times journalist Una Mullally. Some of the topics discussed included the male-dominated  system that lead to the the guarantee, the perception that nothing has fundamentally changed since the events of that night, and the need for a generational shift in Irish politics.

The panel then fielded questions from the audience and cinemagoers around the country who were following the action via satellite and submitting their questions via twitter. Such was the response to the event that #theguarantee was trending in Ireland for the duration of the Q&A.

Screenwriter Colin Murphy also revealed that he is working on a sequel to his original play dealing with the national bailout that followed in the wake of the bank guarantee. No word on a movie version just yet.

THE GUARANTEE is now playing at the following cinemas nationwide. The film will be released on DVD in early December and it is now available for pre-order at
