To celebrate International Go Skateboarding Day earlier this month Hill Street starring skateboarding legend Tony Hawk will have its North American premiere in the US capital Washington DC this evening.

Organised by Solas Nua as part of their Irish Popcorn! series the special screening will be attended by the film’s director JJ Rolfe who has travelled from Ireland to take part in a post screening Q&A.  The film will screen at 7pm in Busboys and Poets.

For audiences who can’t make the premiere, there are a number of ways they can access the film as it is currently available to purchase on DVD on the Hill Street website, the Wildcard Distribution website and Amazon from anywhere in the world. The film is also available for download on the Hill Street website and Wildcard Distribution website from anywhere in the world and is currently available on iTunes in Ireland and the UK and for pre-buy in the US.

Hill Street looks at the origins of skateboarding and the evolution of skateboarding culture in Dublin since the late 1980s up until today. The initial driving force behind the scene was a proprietor of a unique skate shop in North Dublin inner city – ‘Clive’s of Hill Street’. From here, Clive Rowen single-handedly progressed the skate scene through the building of primitive ramps at the shop before graduating to a temporary skate park in the Top Hat Ballroom in Dún Laoghaire, County Dublin. Clive later managed to convince the Powell Peralta ‘Bones Brigade’ Team, including the legendary Tony Hawk, to visit the skate park for a now historic demo. The film comprises interviews with key players in both the Irish and global skate community and features rare, never-seen-before footage.

Hill Street was produced by Warrior Films with support from the Irish Film Board and is being distributed worldwide by Wildcard Distribution.

Solas Nua is a non-profit organisation and is the only organization in the United States dedicated exclusively to contemporary Irish arts. Their mission is to bring the best new Irish artistic talent to American audiences through theatre, music, visual arts, film, and literary events.
