A number of short films which were produced with funding from the Irish Film Board received IFTA nominations this week.

In the live action category HOW WAS YOUR DAY? (Emmaline Dowling) was nominated.  The SXSW selected short tells the story of a woman who is excited about the approaching birth of her first child.

Meanwhile A COAT MADE DARK (Damien Byrne), GEIST (Daniel Spencer), TEA WITH THE DEAD (Susan Broe) and UNHINGED (Tom Caulfield) have all been nominated in the Animated Short category.

A COAT MADE DARK which screened at the prestigious Sundance Film Festival earlier this year follows two burglars who strike it rich after stealing a mysterious coat with pockets containing an impossible fortune.

In the short GEIST a shipwrecked fisherman is led to a dark secret.  The animation is screening at SXSW this month.

In TEA WITH THE DEAD we meet Frank, a gentle unassuming embalmer. After Frank has tended to the deceased, he always makes two cups of tea. One for him and one for the dead. The conversations Frank has with the deceased are recordings of interviews with real Irish people, telling their stories.

In UNHINGED the squeaky hinge gets the oil. But when the squeak escapes the oil, its sure to get you!

The Irish Film and Television Awards take place on April 9th
