The Young Offenders

The Young Offenders has been nominated for seven IFTAs and The Secret Scripture, which will go on general release in Ireland on the 24th of March, has been nominated for six awards. Other Wildcard titles who have made the shortlist include Love & Friendship, Moonlight, I Am Not A Serial Killer, and Bobby Sands 66 Days. The annual Awards Ceremony takes place at the Round Room of the Mansion House on Saturday 8th April 2017.

Three of the best film nominees this year are Wildcard titles. Whit Stillman’s drama Love & Friendship perfectly blends period drama with comedy led by the vivacious Lady Susan Vernon, the delicate portrait of the one-hundred-year-old Roseanne McNulty as she reflects on her life in Jim Sheridan’s The Secret Scripture and Peter Foot’s feature debut The Young Offenders, the hysterical Cork comedy based on the cocaine seizure of 2007 are all nominated for best film.

The Young Offenders is also nominated for Best Scriptwriter for Peter Foott, Actor in a Leading Role for Alex Murphy for his breakout and endearing performance, newcomer Chris Walley for Actors in Supporting Role, and Hilary Rose for Supporting Actress in Film as she played the exasperated mam in The Young Offenders.

The strongly contested Feature Documentary category also sees the poetic portrait of the determined Irish Republican who became a leading figure of the 1980s hunger strike Bobby Sands: 66 Days nominated.

Here’s the full list of Wildcard Nominees, best of luck to them all!
