Jesse Owens Biopic RACE to be released in Irish cinemas on June 3rd
RACE starring Stephan James (Selma) and Jason Sudeikis (We’re The Millers) will be released in cinemas across Ireland on Friday 3rd June. Wildcard Distribution is delighted to be partnering with Altitude Film Distribution for the film’s cinema release in Ireland.
Based on the astounding true story of the legendary track and field athlete from the 1936 Olympic Games, Jesse Owens, the film was directed and produced by Emmy Award-winner Stephen Hopkins (The Life and Death of Peter Sellers) and features Carice Van Houten (Black Book) and Academy Award winning heavy-weights Jeremy Irons and William Hurt.
In 1936 the Olympic Games were held in Berlin, Germany. Organised by the ruling Nazi-Party, the games were intended to showcase Hitler’s vision of the supremacy of the Aryan race. That Nazi dream was shattered by a black American athlete named Jesse Owens. The New York Times called Jesse Owens “the greatest and most famous athlete in track and field history”.
Released two months ahead of the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil and 80 years on from the Olympic Games of 1936 in Berlin, RACE is an enthralling film about courage, determination, friendship and an inspiring drama about one man’s fight to become an Olympic legend.
Made with the cooperation of the Jesse Owens Foundation as well as the Owens family, RACE was written by Anna Waterhouse and Joe Shrapnel (Frankie & Alice).
RACE will be released in cinemas across Ireland from Friday 3rd June.
