An exclusive clip and the theatrical poster from Ciaran Cassidy’s debut feature JIHAD JANE has been released ahead of the film’s world premiere at the Galway Film Fleadh this month.

In March 2010, two American women, including one who named herself ‘Jihad Jane’, were arrested in a number of high-profile arrests in Waterford, Ireland, which were trumpeted by the US attorney’s office as ‘the new face of terrorism’. Facing huge jail sentences, the two women pleaded guilty but now for the first time ever, with unprecedented access, ‘Jihad Jane’ tells the story of the most absurd terror cell ever to come together.

‘Jihad Jane’ is about the Internet and the online world and the damaged people who made plans to murder a Swedish cartoonist but reality comes crashing in, when they actually meet for the first time. The film captures post 9-11 America and what emerges is a touching and haunting portrait of not only a damaged terror cell but the country and world that they emerged from.

Speaking about the world premiere director Ciaran Cassidy said “this documentary is the culmination of a long journey spanning many years and continents. Over the course of four years, we met with the co-conspirators in the terror cell their intended target, and the FBI, all in an attempt to uncover what happened in Waterford in 2010. We are very excited to bring Jihad Jane to the Galway Film Fleadh and for Irish audiences to now finally see our film.”

Produced by Morgan Bushe for Fastnet Films in coproduction with Silver Films AB and New Amsterdam Film Co. with funding from Screen Ireland, BAI, RTE, Section 481, Netherlands Film Fund, Netherlands Production Incentive, SVT and the Swedish Film Institute.

The world premiere of JIHAD JANE will take place at the Galway Film Fleadh on Saturday 13th July and will be followed by a Q&A with the director Ciaran Cassidy.  Tickets can be booked through the festival website:  https://www.galwayfilmfleadh.com/project/jihad-jane-2/
