Lord Mayor of Cork to Attend Premiere of The Young Offenders
The Lord Mayor of Cork, Fine Gael Cllr Des Cahill, will attend the Cork premiere of The Young Offenders next Wednesday 24th August. The highly anticipated premiere, which is in partnership with Red FM, will take place in the Omniplex in Mahon Point and will see the films cast along with local celebrities and media walk the red carpet on the night.
Inspired by the true story of Ireland’s biggest cocaine seizure in 2007, The Young Offenders is a comedy road movie about best friends Conor and Jock, two inner-city teenagers from Cork. When a drug-trafficking boat capsizes off the coast of West Cork and 61 bales of cocaine, each worth €7m are seized, word gets out that there’s a bale missing. The boys steal two bikes and go on a road trip to find bale 62 but not everything goes to plan.
The film which is the debut feature from Peter Foott stars Cork natives Chris Walley and Alex Murphy as well as well-known comedians PJ Gallagher (Naked Camera) and Hilary Rose (The Republic of Telly). Since its world premiere at the Galway Film Fleadh last month where it picked up the Best Irish Film award it’s been receiving praise from critics and audiences alike.
The Cork premiere is set to be a great night with Red FM broadcasting live from the red carpet. While the premiere isn’t open to the public, Red FM are holding ticket give-aways across their shows all this week.
The Young Offenders will go on release nationwide on Friday 16th September with special preview screenings on 10th and 11th September.
