Run & Jump Wins Zebbie Award
Run & Jump picked up the Best Feature Film at the ‘Zebbie’ Awards which took place in Dublin last night. The prize was awarded to Ailbhe Keogan and the director Steph Green who co-wrote the script.
The film which is currently screening in Irish cinemas and will be released across the UK next week beat off stiff competition from Donal Foreman’s Out of Here and Brendan Muldowney’s Love Eternal to win the award.
The Writers Guild of Ireland (formerly the Irish Playwrights and Screenwriters Guild) founded the awards in 2007 in order to highlight the best in Irish writing for stage, screen and radio. OZ “Zebby” Whitehead, for whom the awards are named, was a stage and film character actor who used his own personal funds to sponsor new writing for thirty years.
Run & Jump stars Emmy-nominated actor Will Forte (Nebraska, 30 Rock) stars alongside Maxine Peake (Silk, Shameless) and Ed MacLiam (Holby City). The heart-warming and funny film follows the spirited and impossibly optimistic Vanetia (Peake) who is slowly rebuilding the life she loved following her husband’s (MacLiam) sudden personality-changing stroke. Forte plays a buttoned-up American neuropsychologist who arrives in Ireland to stay with the family to observe Vanetia’s husband. But his continued presence in the house sets the family on course for an emotional collision.
The film has a strong supporting cast which includes Sharon Horgan (Pulling, Dead Boss), Ruth McCabe (Philomena, My Left Foot) and Michael Harding (Silence, Black Ice).
Run & Jump is still playing in selected Irish cinemas and will go on release in the UK next Friday 23rd May.
