‘The Other Side of Sleep’ actor Sam Keeley named as one of Screen International’s “Stars of Tomorrow”
The Other Side of Sleep star Sam Keeley has been chosen to feature in Screen International’s “Stars of Tomorrow” which aims to spotlight up-and-coming actors and filmmakers. Sam is in good company as previous “Stars of Tomorrow” include Carey Mulligan, Andrew Garfield, Robert Pattinson and James McAvoy.
Keeley’s other film credits include Lenny Abrahamson’s acclaimed What Richard Did and Paolo Sorrentino’s This Must Be The Place which starred Sean Penn. Sam plays the lead in the up and coming film Monsters: The Dark Continent and he also has a role in Ron Howard’s latest film Heart of the Sea.
Screen Contributing Editor Fionnuala Halligan curates the “stars” after considering hundreds of names each year. She consults with industry experts including casting agents, talent agents, managers, producers and directors to find the hottest rising talents in Britain and Ireland.
Speaking about Keeley’s inclusion in this year’s line-up Halligan said that she has had her eye on Sam for a while after noting his debut in The Other Side of Sleep and added “It’s no surprise to me how his career is powering on and there is great excitement in the industry about his Monsters role. I’ve seen some footage and it is definitely his film.”
The Other Side of Sleep directed by Rebecca Daly, tells the story of Arlene (played by Antonia Campbell Hughes) who is like a ghost in her life. She lives in a small town in the midlands – surrounded by field after field, woodlands and laneways to disappear down and never come back… One morning Arlene wakes in the woods beside the body of a young woman. Someone watches from the trees. The body is soon discovered and suspicion spreads through the community. Increasingly drawn to the girl’s family – her grieving sister and accused boyfriend – Arlene barricades herself in at night, afraid to sleep. Haunted by grief buried and delayed, Arlene’s sleeping and waking realities soon blur. And all this time someone is watching her.
Produced by Fastnet Films (Colony, Kisses), and European co-producers Rinkel Film & TV Productions and KMH Film Productions, the film is being distributed in Ireland by Wildcard Distribution.
