The Irish Film Institute will be hosting a special preview screening of the highly anticipated LOVE & FRIENDSHIP where writer/director Whit Stillman will take part in a post-screening Q&A.  This screening will take place on Sunday 22nd May at 6pm and tickets are still available to purchase on the IFI website.

LOVE & FRIENDSHIP which filmed in Ireland, stars Kate Beckinsale, Chloe Sevigny and Stephen Fry and will be released in cinemas on Friday 27th May.

Based on the Jane Austen novella ‘Lady Susan’ and set in the 1790s, earlier than most Austen tales, Whit Stillman’s exquisite comedy of matchmaking and heart-breaking Love & Friendship concerns beautiful young widow Lady Susan Vernon (Kate Beckinsale).

The deliciously scheming and manipulative Lady Susan has come to Churchill, the estate of her in-laws, to wait out the colourful rumours about her dalliances circulating through polite society.   Whilst ensconced there, she decides to secure a husband for herself and for her eligible but reluctant school-girl daughter Frederica (Morfydd Clark).  The waters are troubled by the arrival at Churchill of the handsome, eligible Reginald DeCourcy (Xavier Samuel) and silly but cheerful – and very rich – Sir James Martin (Tom Bennett).  Chloe Sevigny, who starred with Beckinsale in Whit Stillman’s The Last Days of Disco (1998) plays Lady Susan’s friend and confidante Alicia Johnson, with Stephen Fry as her husband, the “very respectable” Mr. Johnson.

Some of the Irish locations used in the film include the Royal Hospital Kilmainham, Russborough House, Newbridge House and Howth Castle.

Whit Stillman is best known for his 1990 film Metropolitan, which earned him a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay, and his 1998 romantic drama The Last Days of Disco.  His film Damsels in Distress, was released in 2011, premiering out of competition as the closing film at the 68th Venice International Film Festival.

Tickets for this screening + Q&A are available now from the IFI Box Office on 01 679 3477 or online at www.ifi.ie.
