The animated films SOMEWHERE DOWN THE LINE and DEADLY and the live action short SOPHIE AT THE RACES have been selected for competition at the UK’s leading short film and animation festival, Encounters.

SOMEWHERE DOWN THE LINE which was directed by Julien Regnard examines a man’s life, loves and losses which are shown through the exchanges he has with the passengers in his car.  Produced by Jonathan Clarke for Cartoon Saloon, the film previously won the Best Animation award in the International Competition at the prestigious Clermont Ferrand Short Film Festival earlier this year.

Directed by Aidan McAteer and produced by Shannon George of Kavaleer Productions DEADLY tells the story of Boney, a working stiff in a dead-end job. That is until he has a run-in with a spirited old lady named Bridie. The award-winning short features the voices of Peter Coonan and Brenda Fricker.

In SOPHIE AT THE RACES we join Sophie as she journeys to the races on a promise from her troubled mother Hariette that she will meet her father for the first time.  Written and directed by Alan Friel, this moving drama was produced by Fiona Kinsella for Jumper Productions.

Encounters Festival has become known as the UK’s leading short film and animation festival and is an annual meeting place for new, emerging and established filmmakers and industry professionals. The festival will take place in Bristol, UK from the 15th – 20th September.

Somewhere Down The Line, Deadly and Sophie at the Races were all produced with funding from the Irish Film Board.
