Wildcard Distribution is delighted to be bringing Hlynur Palmason’s A White, White Day to Irish cinemas next year.  The film which had its world premiere at the Cannes International Critic’s Week earlier this year, is Iceland’s submission for the Best International Feature Film at the 92nd Academy Awards in 2020 and has also been longlisted for the European Film Awards.

In a remote Icelandic town, a former police officer (played by Ingvar Sigurdsson) begins to suspect a local man for having had an affair with his wife, who recently died in a car accident. Gradually his obsession for finding out the truth accumulates and inevitably begins to endanger himself and his loved ones. A White, White Day is a story of grief, revenge and unconditional love.

Sigurdsson’s powerful lead performance in the film saw him awarded the prestigious Louis Roederer Foundation Rising Star Award at the Cannes Critic’s Week.

The film is writer/director Hlynur Pálmason’s second film, following the critically acclaimed and multi-award-winning Danish/Icelandic production Winter Brothers.

The film was produced by Anton Máni Svansson, of Iceland’s Join Motion Pictures. It was co-produced by Katrin Pors, Mikkel Jersin and Eva Jakobsen, of Denmark’s Snowglobe, Anthony Muir, of Sweden’s Film i Väst, and Nima Yousefi, of Swedish Hobab.

A White, White Day will be released in Irish cinemas in early 2020.
