Audiences at the Cork Film Festival will have the chance to see four Wildcard films, The Man Who Invented Christmas, No Stone Unturned, Song of Granite and Michael Inside ahead of their cinema releases over the coming months.

The festive and light-hearted family feature about the most iconic Christmas story ever written and the genius behind it, THE MAN WHO INVENTED CHRISTMAS will open the festival this Friday 10th November.  Starring Dan Stevens (Downton Abbey, Beauty and the Beast), the film tells the story of how Dickens wrote his classic book A Christmas Carol and how he dreamed up the character of Scrooge.

NO STONE UNTURNED, the latest film from the producers of Bobby Sands 66 Days and written and directed by the Oscar-winning and prolific American-documentarian Alex Gibney (Taxi to the Dark Side) will screen on Saturday 11th November.  The controversial documentary about the Loughinisland Massacre sees Gibney igniting a fire under this cold case that has frustrated the victims’ families for more than 20 years.  This screening will also include a post-screening Q&A with the film’s producer Trevor Birney.

On Sunday 12th November audiences will have the opportunity to see the stunningly beautiful SONG OF GRANITE which is Ireland’s submission for the Foreign Language category at next year’s Academy Awards.   The biopic from acclaimed filmmaker Pat Collins (Silence) charts the rise of traditional Irish folk singer Joe Heaney, and how the songs of his west of Ireland childhood helped shape his complex character.

Finally, Frank Berry’s social realist drama Michael Inside which was awarded the Best Irish Feature at the Galway Film Fleadh will screen on the 16th November.  The critically acclaimed film tells the story of an impressionable 18-year-old living with his grandfather in a Dublin housing estate, who gets caught holding a bag of drugs for his friend’s older brother and is sentenced to three months in prison.
