Wildcard Distribution has announced the latest additions to its slate, including the unique and uplifting GOLD and slacker comedy GET UP AND GO which are both screening at the Galway Film Fleadh this week, along with rom-com STANDBY and heavy hitting banking drama THE GUARANTEE.

Wildcard has acquired Irish rights for Niall Heery’s (Small Engine Repair) GOLD which stars Screen International’s ‘Star of Tomorrow’ Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones) David Wilmot (Calvary), Kerry Condon (The Runway) and James Nesbitt (The Hobbit).  Written by Niall and his brother Brendan Heery and produced by Tristan Orpen Lynch and Aoife O’Sullivan for Subotica Films, the film is scheduled for a cinema release this year.

Irish/UK rights have been acquired from Magnolia Pictures International for the romantic comedy STANDBY starring Jessica Paré (Mad Men) and Brian Gleeson (The Stag).  The feature debut for brothers Rob and Ronan Burke, was written by Pierce Ryan and produced by John Wallace for Black Sheep Productions.

THE GUARANTEE goes into production this summer and is directed by Ian Power (The Runway).  The film recreates the drama surrounding the most significant political decision in modern Irish history when the Irish government decided to guarantee the entire domestic banking system.  Written by Colin Murphy and based on his stage play, THE GUARANTEE stars an ensemble cast each of whom play several roles in the film.  It is being produced by John Kelleher Media in association with the BAI, the Irish Film Board and TV3.  Wildcard has acquired worldwide rights for THE GUARANTEE.

GET UP AND GO had its world premiere at the Galway Film Fleadh last night to a sold out screening.  Written and directed by Brendan Grant and starring Peter Coonan (King of the Travellers) and Killian Scott (Calvary), GET UP AND GO tells the story of two friends in Dublin at the wrong end of their 20’s whose dreams of artistic greatness haven’t quite worked out.  The screening was celebrated with a great after party in the Roisin Dubh with music by Mik Pyro (Republic of Loose) who stars in the film and was attended by cast members Peter Coonan and Gemma-Leah Devareaux and many of the production team and crew.  Also in attendance showing support for the film were actors Jack Reynor (Glassland) and Pollyanna McIntosh (Love Eternal), director Lance Daly (Life’s A Breeze, Kisses), Variety ‘director to watch’ Paul Duane (Barbaric Genius, Natan) and a host of people from the Irish film industry.

Wildcard has also taken on the promotion of the Irish Film Board funded short films which will premiere tomorrow and will be working closely with the IFB and the filmmakers on marketing and promoting these films at international film festivals.

Gold will screen tonight, Friday 11th July at 6pm in the Town Hall Theatre.
