The Irish feature film MAMMAL and the Irish co-produced documentary THE LAND OF THE ENLIGHTENED will both have their world premieres this Sunday at the renowned Sundance Film Festival in the USA.

Starring Academy Award® nominated and Golden Globe® winning actress Rachel Griffiths (Six Feet Under, Muriel’s Wedding) and rising Irish star Barry Keoghan (Love/Hate, ’71) MAMMAL will have its world premiere on Sunday in the World Dramatic Competition.  Meanwhile THE LAND OF THE ENLIGHTENED will screen in the International Documentary strand and will also premiere on Sunday.

Directed by Rebecca Daly, co-written by Glenn Montgomery and produced by Fastnet Films, MAMMAL also stars Michael McElhatton (Game of Thrones) and Johnny Ward (Love/Hate).  It is the compelling story of a woman (Griffiths) who has lost her son and develops an unorthodox relationship with a homeless youth (Keoghan). Their tentative trust is threatened by his involvement with a violent gang and the escalation of her ex-husband’s (McElhatton) grieving rage.

Pieter-Jan De Pue’s documentary THE LAND OF THE ENLIGHTENED which was also produced by Fastnet Films, charts the complex Afghani war economy told through the eyes of the children who have found themselves caught up in the on-going American occupation.

Also screening at the prestigious festival is the short Irish animation A COAT MADE DARK.  Written and directed Jack O’Shea and produced by Damien Byrne for Still Films it features the voices of Hugh O’Connor, Declan Conlon and Antonia Campbell Hughes.  It tells the story of two burglars who strike it rich after stealing a mysterious coat and the comic tale in which Midnight, an anthropomorphized dog and his human servant Peter struggle for power, courtesy of the coat.

It produced under the Frameworks short-film scheme, which is co-financed by Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board, RTÉ and the Arts Council.
