Hollywood star Zachary Quinto (Star Trek, Heroes) presented Kelly Thornton, the young star of Lance Daly’s Life’s A Breeze with the Bingham Ray New Talent Award at the Galway Film Fleadh this weekend.

Kelly beat off stiff competition from the other rising star nominees, director Steph Green (Run & Jump), writer Ailbhe Keogan (Run & Jump), producer Emmet Flemming (Out of Here) and cinematographer Eimear Ennis Graham (Cold), to win the prize.

As well as being her first feature film, Life’s A Breeze is actually Kelly’s first experience of acting, having been approached on Dublin’s Grafton Street by a casting scout to audition for the role.

Since the world premiere of the film at the Galway Film Fleadh Kelly has been receiving critical acclaim for her debut role. Entertainment.ie has called her performance an “impressive debut” while the Irish Examiner enthused about her “understated and unassuming performance”.

”Ms Thornton impressively holds her own against acting heavyweights like Fionnula Flanagan and Pat Shortt, proving every bit their equal despite her young age”. IFTN

Life’s A Breeze is in cinemas across Ireland from July 19th.
